The Teak House

The Teak House Hantrakul

The Teak House is a creative non-fiction piece that was published as the Feature of the award-winning Literary Magazine The Common. The full essay can be read on the Common website:

The piece traces my family and personal histories through my grandparent’s teak house in the North of Thailand. The piece was originally written for Prof. Colleen Kinder’s “Travel Writing: Writing About Place” class and was further edited by Sahiba Gill at The Common.

Thank you to Sukanya Hantrakul (my mother) for helping me with fact-checking of our family history and to Gong and Nae (my grandparents) for having the courage, determination and love to build this beautiful Teak House for your children and grandchildren and future generations to come.
